Congressman Bergman and Al Campbell discuss the issues
Deb and Al Campbell on Saturday discussed a number of issues with Cong. Jack Bergman.
All three were attending a fundraising auction sponsored by the Republican Women of Leelanau
County, whose mission is to “increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good
government.” The auction was held in the “Houdek Barn” in Centerville Township.
“I’ve conversed with many congressmen and senators during my career as a journalist, and I
have to say that Jack is one of the most accessible during election and off-election years,” said
Campbell, who was not representing the Leelanau Enterprise at the event. “He really seemed to
enjoy himself and even emerged as high bidder for a lot of items.”
Issues discussed at the event and during follow up conversations included improvements
needed at the VFW Hall in Lake Leelanau, treatment of veterans, the national debt, and the
attempted assassination of former president Donald J. Trump. Bergman and fellow Congressional
Republicans on June 14, 2017, were targets in a a mass shooting during a practice session for
the annual Congressional Baseball Game in Alexandria, Virginia. Six people were shot including
House majority whip Steve Scalise. Bergman was not injured.
